MUST-KNOW LOCAL TIPS.

Sandhill Cranes blend in with the pavement, so please be aware of our beautiful birds!
We do have coyotes so keep an eye on your little dogs & cats when you let them outside, especially in the evening.
All of our lakes and ponds have alligators in them — so don’t let your pets or small children play around the edges. Even if you don’t see an alligator, it’s there!

A Look Back at Wesley Chapel's Not-So-Distant Past
For our newer residents in the northern Wesley Chapel and Lagoon area, it's hard to imagine just how different things looked only 20 years ago.
Back in 2004, Overpass Road was actually a two-lane dirt road. Yes, a dirt road that crossed over I-75! It was our little secret shortcut to Wesley Chapel District Park for soccer games, flag football, and weekend activities. Most people in Wesley Chapel didn't even know it existed, but for those of us who lived nearby, it was a wonderful way to avoid traffic.
At that time, Old Pasco Road was paved only as far as Overpass Road. Beyond that, it remained dirt all the way north to State Road 52 until around 2006. When it rained, the drive could get a little muddy, but my kids loved every minute of it. We would often come home from visiting Grandma and Grandpa, slipping and sliding along those country roads.
Although Overpass Road was paved in 2005, it remained a quiet two-lane road with very little traffic. There was no I-75 interchange, no busy commercial development, and no endless stream of cars. In fact, Overpass Road ended near what is now Palm Cove, just past Boyette Road.
The transformation over the past two decades has been remarkable. What began as a little-known countryroad eventually became a major transportation corridor for one of Florida's fastest-growing communities. A milestone in that growth came in January 2023, when the new multi-lane Overpass Road interchange and flyover bridge officially opened as I-75 Exit 282. For longtime residents who remember bouncing down a dirt road over the interstate, seeing a modern interchange in its place is still hard to believe.
For those of us who raised our families here, it's amazing to see how much the area has grown. What was once considered "the middle of nowhere" has become one of the most sought-after areas in Pasco County.
It's been exciting to watch, but every now and then it's nice to remember the dirt roads, open fields, and simpler days that helped shape the Wesley Chapel we know today
